Brown Sugar Worth Rs 1.5L Seized, Two Arrested In Balasore

Balasore: Police on Thursday seized brown sugar weighing about 10 grams in Balasore district and arrested two youths in this connection.

According to information, a police team intercepted an autorickshaw during patrolling at Chalanti Chhak after noticing suspicious behaviour of the driver. Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered the banned substance.

The accused have been identified as Deepak Mohapatra of Old Town in Bhubaneswar and Dhiren Mohapatra, a native of Sakhigopal area in Puri district.

The brown sugar was being smuggled to Bhubaneswar. The market value of the seized brown sugar is estimated to be around Rs 1.5 lakh.

“Raids will be carried out at different places in the district to nab other persons involved in the smuggling racket”, a police officer informed.
