Brown Sugar Worth Rs 1 Crore Seized, 1 Arrested By Odisha STF From Nayagarh

Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police seized brown sugar valued at more than Rs 1 crore and arrested drug peddler in Nayagarh district.

Acting on intelligence input, a team of STF of the Crime Branch carried out raid at at Narayani Pitha in Kantilo under the jurisdiction of Fategarh police station of the district on Sunday evening against illegal dealing and possession of narcotic drugs.

The STF sleuths apprehended the drug peddler, identified as Hara Prasad Prusty of Chamusahi Patna under Khandapada police station limit of the district, STF said in a release.

During search, brown sugar weighing 1190 grams, a motorcycle and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from his possession. The seized brown sugar was valued at more than Rs 1 crore.

The accused person could not produce any valid authority in support of possession of such contraband materials, for which the he was arrested and will be forwarded to the court of District & Sessions cum Special Judge, Nayagarh.

A case was registered and investigation is on.

Special drive against narcotic drugs is continuing. Since 2020, STF has seized more than 68 Kg of brown sugar/heroin, 202 gram cocaine and more than 111 quintals of ganja/marijuna, opium 750 gram and arrested more than 166 drug dealers and peddlers, the STF release added.
