Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan flagged off Border Security Force (BSF) Half Marathon at Kalinga Stadium here on Sunday.
The event for men, women and children under 21 km, 10 km and 5 km categories was organised as a part of BSF’s countrywide initiative to remember martyrs.
Speaking on the occasion, Pradhan said, “People from all walks of life, including differently abled, women and students, are participating in the marathon. This shows that a majority of citizens repose faith in paramilitary and police forces.”
Besides, it is increasing interest among people for sports in the state capital, he said.
Congratulating the BSF for organising such an event, he said, “The forces play a crucial role in internal security and counter insurgency operations in several parts of the country.”
To mark the occasion, family members of 26 freedom fighters were felicitated.
Among others, BSF IG AK Singh and DGP, Odisha Police, RP Sharma were present.
