Malkangiri: The security forces have unearthed a huge dump of arms and explosives of the Maoists in Odisha’s Malkangiri on the Saheed Diwas (martyrs’ day) observed by the banned outfit.
On the basis of specific information about the Maoist dump in Balimela Reserve Forest near village Taimal, the BSF launched a special operation on Thursday. The BSF personnel found the dump in Balimela forest between Lariguda and Taimal villages under Chitrakonda police station on Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border.
The arms and explosives that were recovered from the dump included 2 SBML guns, 2 empty SBML shells, 11 hand grenades and 28 detonators besides 3 steel tiffin boxes.
Recovery of the huge dump explosives and SBML gun is expected to demoralise the Maoist cadres and their sympathisers, said a press release of the BSF. It would also motivate the security forces to operate more actively in the region.
Balimela Reserve Forest has been the safe haven for Maoist outfits since long due to topographical reasons and favourable atmosphere. BSF troops and police have been actively operating in the area to curb Maoist menace in the region and create sense of security among the local populace.
