Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to get a Bulk Drug Park soon.

The proposal to set up the park at Tata SEZ, in Gopalpur, was approved in principle at a high-level meeting in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy has issued directions to form a State Implementing Agency (SIA) in the shape of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) and work out a detailed proposal within a fortnight.

According to the state’s Principal Secretary (Industry) Hemant Sharma, the proposed park will have advanced infrastructure facilities including central affluent treatment plant, solid waste management, warehousing, dedicated power distribution system, steam generation and distribution system, common cooling system, advanced testing laboratories, centre of excellence, technology business incubator, intellectual property right services, etc.

The 1000 acres of land required for the park is available in this SEZ. The area is well connected with NH-16 which is considered to be the spine for proposed Odisha Economic Corridor.

The estimated cost of setting up the park and its infrastructure development is around Rs 1,500 crore, and will be financed by Central and State funds.

Once operational, the park is expected to create employment for about 5,000 people.

Gopalpur is well connected with port, railway and Biju Patnaik International airport. There is an air strip at Gopalpur as well, which can be utilized if needed.
