Balasore: A cancer-stricken girl from a nondescript village in Balasore district has come out with flying colours in the annual Matric exam this year.
Monalisa Mandal, a resident of Juari village in Alumeda panchayat, could not appear for the Matric exam last year after she was diagnosed with bone cancer in her right hand.
After a series of chemo therapies, however, Monalisa decided to appear for the examination this year. Notwithstanding the reluctance of her family members, the gritty girl went ahead with her decision and eventually cleared the exam with 80% marks.
Narrating her experience, Monalisa said that a month ahead of the exam, she had excruciating pain in her right hand.
“My parents and family members advised me to skip the examination. But as I had already made up my mind, I ignored their advice and appeared in the examination by consuming pain killers to bring down the throbbing pain,” she added.
