Bhubaneswar: A female attendant of Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar was suspended for negligence in duty in connection with a child swapping incident.
Director of the hospital Laxmidhar Sahoo further said that the 3-member committee, which was formed to probe the incident and any lapses on the part of the staff, found that the woman had indeed delivered a girl child contrary to the allegation being made by her husband, Pranakrushna Biswal. “The probe committee report was conveyed to the aggrieved party. Since they did not accept the report, the police were intimated about it,” he said, adding that steps may be taken for DNA test to ascertain the biological parents of the child.
Sahoo clarified that the female attendant was suspended to avoid any influence on the probe. “Strict action would be taken against any other staffer found guilty of lapses during the police investigation,” he added.
On Tuesday, Biswal had filed a complaint with the Capital Hospital director and Capital police station alleging that they were initially informed about the delivery of a baby boy but were later handed a newborn girl. “I suspect our child was swapped as another delivery had taken place around the same time. Examination of CCTV footage and DNA test should be done to bring the truth out,” he stressed.
