Bhubaneswar: A Special CBI Court in Bhubaneswar has sentenced a district youth coordinator of the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan to rigorous imprisonment (RI) for two years in a bribe case.
As per the case, the CBI had received a complaint on March 16, 2011 that Dillip Sahoo, then district youth coordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan in Sambalpur, was demanding Rs 3,000 as bribe from the complaint for appointment of a volunteer in the National Youth Corps. The Sangathan is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
On the basis of the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught Dillip red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant. The Central agency sleuths recovered the bribe money and arrested Dillip.
The CBI filed chargesheet in the court on May 16, 2012. After hearing the case, the Special CBI court convicted Dillip and announced 2 years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
It may be noted that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had introduced National Youth Corps to engage the youths in nation building activities by recruiting them as volunteers. Young men and women in the age group of 18 to 25 years were eligible to work as volunteers for two years with an honorarium of around Rs 2,500 per month.
