Bhubaneswar: A total of 54 projects worth Rs 63,000 crore will be implemented in Odisha under the Centre’s ambitious Sagarmala programme. This is aimed at bringing change in India’s logistics sector by unlocking the potential of its coastline and waterways.
Union minister of ports, shipping and waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, informed this in the Rajya Sabha. Sonowal said the projects identified in Odisha are related to the modernisation of the ports, connectivity, industrialization, coastal community development and shipping and inland waterways.
“These projects are being implemented by major ports, central ministries, Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), Indian Railways, National Highways Authority of India and various state agencies,” Sonowal said while responding to a query by BJD member N Bhaskar Rao.
Out of the 54 projects, 16 worth Rs 6,560 crore has already been completed and 21 projects pegged around Rs 31,896 crore are under implementation. “Similarly, implementation of 17 more projects worth Rs 24,700 crore will be taken up soon,” the Union minister added.
