Chandigarh: Massive protests had erupted at Chandigarh University after a female student allegedly recorded objectionable videos of fellow-hostel inmates and leaked it.
It has emerged now that no objectionable video of students was shot or sent by the accused student, who was arrested earlier on Sunday.
According to police and the university, the woman had sent her own video to a boyfriend.
The male friend, identified as 23-year-old Sunny Mehta, was also arrested this evening. The arrested man and woman both are from Rohru in Shimla.
The Punjab Police had earlier said that the man was known to the accused woman student.
“A man from Shimla is known to the accused girl. Only after he is caught, will more details be known. Forensic probe of her mobile phone will be conducted,” ADGP Community Affairs Division Gurpreet Deo was earlier quoted as saying by ANI.
The university issued a statement saying that there was only one ‘leaked’ clip, which was a personal video that the accused sent to her boyfriend.
“The rumour which is circulating through the media that 60 objectionable MMS have been found of students is totally false and baseless. During the preliminary investigation conducted by the university, there have been no videos found of any student that are objectionable except a personal video shot by a girl that she shared with her boyfriend,” Chandigarh University pro-chancellor RS Bawa said.
