Puri: Chhatisha Nijog Committee of Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri town has approved the schedule of the rituals for Rath Yatra this year.
At a meeting of Chhatisha Nijog sub-committee, the rituals for Rath Yatra, Snana Yatra, Suna Besha and Bahuda Yatra were decided on Wednesday evening. Later, Chhatisha Nijog Committee held a meeting presided by chief administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration Vir Vikram Yadav to approve the schedule of the Rath Yatra.
As per the schedule, approved by Chhatisha Nijog, ‘Pahandi’ (procession) of the deities of the temple will start at 9 am and end at 12 noon on the day of Rath Yatra on July 1. It will be followed by ‘Chhera Pahanra’ (sweeping chariots by Puri king Gajapati Dibyasingh Deb and other rituals. The pulling of chariots will begin at 4 pm.
The committee also approved the procedures and timing of other rituals including Snana Yatra, Suna Besha and Bahuda Yatra. Besides, it discussed the rituals to be performed by servitors and how many servitors to be engaged in which ritual. The detailed procedures to complete all the rituals smoothly in time also figured in the discussion.
According to sources, the decisions taken by Chhatisha Nijog will be approved by Jagannath Temple Management Committees before the schedule is officially declared.
As per schedule, Deba Snana Purnima on will be held on June 14, Rath Yatra on July 1, Bahuda Yatra on July 9 and Suna Besha of three deities Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra on July 10.
