New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is leaving no stone unturned to make its presence felt in the upcoming Gujarat assembly elections.
In a unique initiative, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday launched a campaign for the general public to choose their Gujarat chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
Kejriwal, who is also chief minister of Delhi, issued a number — 635 7000 360 — for the people of Gujarat to SMS/WhatsApp their choice for the party’s CM face. An email ID has also been provided — aapnocm@gmail.com – for people to write about their choice.
The number and email ID will be active till 5 pm on November 3. Based on public response, AAP will declare its chief ministerial candidate for the Gujarat elections on November 4.
“We want the people of Gujarat to tell us who should be the next chief minister. We are issuing a number and an email id. You can send your opinions until 5 pm on November 3. We will announce the result on November 4,” Kejriwal announced in Surat.
Only time will tell whether people thought this was just a ‘gimmick’ or whether they took it seriously.
With election due for the 182-member Gujarat Legislative Assembly by the end of this year, the Election Commission of India is expected to announce the poll schedule within a week or two.
