Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) said on Thursday that the syllabus will be reduced by 30 per cent for +2 students in the state for the second consecutive year.
The decision was made at the CHSE Academic Committee meeting held here on Thursday.
“Though physical mode of teaching resumed in colleges lately due to Covid situation, the total teaching days has reduced. In view of that, it has been decided to continue with the 30 per cent reduced syllabus this year as well,” CHSE vice-chairman Tushar Kanti Tripathy said.
Similarly, the Academic committee made extensive deliberations to ensure a continuous evaluation mechanism for the students.
Besides the syllabus reduction, the proposal to implement terminal examination (in two terms) for Class XI and XII students was also made.
According to the proposal, there will be 3 quarter-end exams and one annual exam each for Class XI and XII students every year.
There will be three quarter-end examinations (to be conducted by the respective colleges) and one annual examination in the first year.
Three quarter-end exams will be held along with the annual exam (to be conducted by CHSE). The terminal examinations will be of 30 marks each, including 20 marks for theory and 10 marks for practicals.
“The marks of the students will be evaluated on the basis of the marks secured in the final exam, if at all it is conducted. The proposal will be placed before the Odisha government for approval. Following necessary approvals, a detailed notification will be issued by the council in subsequent phases,” said Tripathy.
“We hope the COVID-19 situation will improve in the coming days. If the situation doesn’t permit the CHSE to conduct annual +2 exams, the alternative evaluation process will come handy for assessment and publication of the results,” Tripathy added.
