Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday commended a proposal to have crematorium for pets in the state, especially in the urban areas.
Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra appreciated a concern raised by Cuttack-Barabati MLA Sofia Firdous about disposal of dead pets.
Firdous asked if the state government would consider establishing pet crematoriums in cities, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, to ensure respectful and environment-friendly disposal of deceased pets.
In his reply, the H&UD Minister said that the proposal had not been considered so far but it is praiseworthy.
“Evaluating the environmental aspect and public health benefits, necessary steps will be taken to create such facilities in consultation with stakeholders and experts,” Mahapatra added.
