Berhampur: Tension prevailed on the campus of Berhampur University here after two groups of students clashed on Tuesday night ahead of the students’ union election.
Two among the three students injured in the clash were admitted to MKCG Medical and Hospital here.
Two platoon of police were deployed on the college campus to maintain law and order.
On Tuesday night, senior students along with outsiders called the juniors to attend a meeting ahead of students’ union election. When juniors refused to attend the meeting, they were beaten up with bats, stumps and iron rods.
Following the incident, the students gathered in front of the administrative building of the university to discuss the matter with the Registrar.
“The senior students took us to the meeting place forcefully. Some outsiders were also there. We did not agree to attend it, following which, they beat us in cricket bats, stumps and iron rods,” said one of the injured students.
The university authorities are yet to issue a statement on the issue.
