Rayagada: Tension prevailed at a village in Dangasil area of Odisha’s Rayagada district after a Class-III girl was allegedly raped in her school by a peon.
While the accused school peon, identified as Shiba Prasad Mishra, has been taken into custody by the police, several others have also been detained for questioning in connection with the incident that reportedly took place on Friday, sources said.
Soon after news about the incident spread in the area, locals staged a road blockade demanding justice for the victim. The situation turned worse when police personnel visited the village and asked the protesters to withdraw the road blockade.
Angry locals allegedly set the police vehicle on fire after a tussle erupted between the cops and the villagers.
Police personnel in strength have been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident and further escalation of tension.
Sources said the minor girl was rescued was first admitted to a healthcare centre at Dangasil and later shifted to Rayagada district headquarters hospital after her condition deteriorated. Her condition is now stated to be stable.
The accused reportedly committed the offence after school hours when the girl was returning home. He allegedly took her into a room and committed the crime. Investigation into the incident is in progress.
