Gurugram: In a shocking incident that underscores the importance of storing licenced firearms securely, two Class-XI students shot at and injured a classmate at a posh housing society at Gurugram in NCT Delhi on Saturday evening.
The licenced pistol used belongs to the father of one of the accused. The victim is undergoing treatment at a private hospital while the two accused have been detained.
The pistol has been seized and the police are questioning the father on how his son got access to the weapon. The law clearly states that nobody save for the licence holder can use the weapon.
According to the police, the incident occurred at Central Park Resorts in Sector 48, Gurugram. One of the accused called the 17-year-old victim to an apartment rented by his father within the complex.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the prime accused – who fired the pistol – had a quarrel with the victim in the past and wanted to teach him a lesson. All three are students of the Yaduvanshi school, located close to the housing complex.
In her complaint, registered with Sadar Police Station, the victim’s mother said the prime accused called and asked her son to meet him. The victim initially refused but decided to go after much persuasion. The accused even arrived at the victim’s house to pick him up.
The prime accused apparently said that he wished to patch up differences that he had with the victim. On reaching the apartment, the victim found another friend of the accused present at the spot. The prime accused then shot at the teenager using his father’s licensed pistol.
A police team rushed to the spot on receiving information. However, the injured teenager had already been taken to the Medanta Hospital by then.
The police seized the pistol, a magazine with five live cartridges, an empty shell, another magazine and 65 live cartridge from a box in the apartment. A forensic team also reached the spot to collect samples.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Juvenile Justice Act.
The Gurugram Police have, meanwhile, appealed to all firearm owners to keep their licensed weapons secure and out of the reach of children to avoid such incidents.
