Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday urged the Centre for introduction of direct flights between and Bhubaneswar and Pune.
In a letter to Union Civil Aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju Pusapati, the Chief Minister reminded him of a long standing relationship between Bhubaneswar and Pune, the two prominent educational and IT hubs of the country.
Apart from this, tourists from Pune undertake journey to various places like Puri, Konark and Chilika while the people of Odisha visit Shirdi, Mahabaleswar, Triyambakeswar near Pune. However, since there is no direct flight between the two cities, the passengers have to take flight via Hyderabad or Mumbai which is costlier and time consuming, Patnaik said.
The Chief Minister urged the Union minister to sincerely consider the above factors and sought his personal intervention for introduction of direct flights between Bhubaneswar and Pune either by the Air India or any other private airlines at the earliest.
