Bhubaneswar: The intense cold wave continued to grip Odisha for the fourth day on Tuesday, with the mercury dipping below 10°C in Bhubaneswar for the first time this season. Angul recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 5°C.
According to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) morning bulletin, besides Angul, the temperature touched single digit in Daringibadi (Kandhamal district) (6), Sonepur (5.6), Titlagarh (8), Phulbani (6.5), Talcher (8.6), Hirakud (9.6), Sundargarh (9), Sambalpur (8.6), Keonjhar (6.2), Jharsuguda (8), Bhubaneswar (9.8), Cuttack (9) and Balasore (9.4).
Even the night temperature fell sharply in the coastal areas of Paradip (13.2), Gopalpur (12.9) and Puri (12.6).
The duty officer of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, PK Nath, said the weather in Odisha will remain dry today. However, there will be light to moderate rainfall and thundershower at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar on January 1, many places over north Odisha and few places in south Odisha districts on January 2.
Besides, there will be sporadic rainfall at one or two places in coastal and interior Odisha and thunderstorm with lightning and hail at one or two places in Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Keonjhar, Khurda and Mayurbhanj districts on January 3, and at one or two places in the coastal districts and in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and Gajapati districts on January 4.
“Though the night temperature will go up by 2-3°C due to the rainfall activity, the cold wave will set in again after January 4,” Nath pointed out.
