Bhubaneswar: Intensifying its ‘Safe city Drive,’ Commissionerate Police apprehended 21 people for drunk driving, seized their vehicles and registered cases against them.
Acting on the directions of Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Prateek Singh, the Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) conducted a special drive in areas under Bharatpur, Badagada Laxmisagar, Jatni, Khandagiri, Kharavel Nagar and Saheed Nagar police limits of Odisha’s capital late on Saturday night.
The Laxmisagar police arrested the highest number of seven drivers while the Jatani police arrested five. Unlike previously, drunk drivers are not only being fined but being arrested too and their vehicles are being seized.
According to a senior police official, the enforcement drive is being carried out in the city under the ‘Safe City Drive’ initiative. The Commissionerate Police had adopted a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against drunken driving and will continue the drive to arrest persons driving under the influence of alcohol.
