Bhubaneswar: A total of 704 Joint Enquiry Reports (JERs) have been issued by the police during the one week beginning January 11.
As per a release issued by Odisha Police, a week-long special drive for issuing Joint Enquiry Report (JER) for compensation to SC/ST victims under the provisions of Prevention of Atrocities Act was held.
On instructions of DGP, the special drive was launched from 11 to 17 January by Odisha Police for conducting such joint enquiry and issuing JER.
The release stated that “Under SC & ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, provisions for compensation to victims exist. For such compensation, a joint enquiry by Deputy SP of Police (DSP) and Executive Magistrate and their report is a requirement.”
“As a result of this special drive, 704 Joint Enquiry Reports were issued during this one week period. Our achievement during special drive is very good since our issue of JER report in a month has been between 184 and 385 during the last one year,” informed Odisha Police in its release.
It further informed, “For issue/release of more than 100 JERs during this special drive, DGP has commended Puri District Police and Balasore District Police.”
