Bhubaneswar: After imposing a complete ban on the single-use plastic in the urban areas, the Odisha government has decided to ban this item completely in the state by October 2 next year.
A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting at the Lok Seva Bhawan presided over by the chief secretary Asit Tripathy here on Friday.
Talking to the media after the meeting, director, Environment, Sushil Kumar Popli said in accordance with the directive of the chief secretary, steps will be taken from now on to bring down the use of single-use plastic items in rural areas and make the people aware of health hazards caused by these items.
The Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water department has been asked to dispose of the single-use plastic items, he added,
