Puri: A group of Congress workers went on a rampage in their district office after the party changed its nominee for Puri Sadar Assembly constituency in Odisha.
The Congress had announced Sujit Mohapatra as its candidate for the constituency earlier. But the party changed its nominees in 5 Assembly constituencies including Mohapatra on Saturday. Mohapatra was replaced by senior leader of the Congress Uma Ballav Rath.
Before the Congress made the changes in its candidates, Mohapatra had already filed his nomination papers. Agitated by the party’s decision to drop Mohapatra, his supporters went to the district office of the party and ransacked it on Sunday.
They tore down the party posters and flags besides damaging the furniture inside the office. They also raised slogans against state leaders of the Congress.
Expressing his dissatisfaction over party’s decision, Mohapatra said he was a victim of a conspiracy within the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee.
