Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections slated for next year, the Congress on Tuesday announced ‘one family, one ticket’ policy for selection of candidates in Odisha.
Briefing mediapersons after the party’s organizational meeting at the Congress Bhawan here, AICC Odisha in-charge Jitender Singh said that only one member of a family would be picked for the forthcoming general elections.
“The selection of the candidate will be strictly made on the basis of merit and winnability. No quota or recommendation will be entertained,” he added.
Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik said the decision taken at the meeting will be strictly adhered to in the ensuing elections.
Working president Pradip Majhi said the process for reconstitution OPCC would be taken up soon.
“After the reconstitution of the OPCC, the process for selection of party candidates will be finalized. In the first phase, the party will announce the names of 50-75 candidates,” he pointed out.
Majhi further said that a special cell, comprising experienced leaders and workers, would be opened for the forthcoming elections. The OPCC vice-presidents and general secretaries would remain in charge of the cell, he added.
