Bhubaneswar: The Congress on Sunday sought a fresh probe by the Crime Branch into Pipili gang rape and murder case.
Demanding the sacking of Agriculture Minister and Pipili MLA Pradip Maharathy from the ministry at a press briefing at the Congress Bhawan here, party’s spokesperson Satyaprakash Nayak said the two BJD leaders Judhistir Swain and Dharanidhar Sahu, who had earlier given their statement to the Crime Branch police, which they later changed in the court.
“As per the law, if a witness contradicts his/her earlier statement then the assistant public prosecutor should cross-examine him/her. Though the two BJD leaders had given contradictory statements, the APP did not cross-examine them. Hence we demand a fresh investigation into the case and the immediate ouster of the Agriculture minister as he may again influence the course of investigation,” Nayak pointed out.
