Sundargarh: The Town Police are on the hunt for an anti-social, who opened fire on a Special Branch constable near a beer parlour at Khamaripada Chhak here on Wednesday night.
The injured constable Soumendra Sethi, who sustained bullet injury on his neck, has been admitted to the Ispat General Hospital in Rourkela. His condition is stated to be stable.
According to reports, Krishna Gupta, an anti-social of Patrapada, was drinking beer with his two associates at the beer parlour. After drinking the beer, they smashed the empty glass bottles on the ground.
Trouble started when some youths present there, asked them to refrain from doing this. This led to a heated exchange of words between them.
Later, Krishna and the other youths came out of the parlour. Meanwhile, the constable, who was on night duty, tried to pacify both the groups and asked Krishna to leave the area. However, the anti-social suddenly whipped a country-made revolver from his pocket and opened four rounds of fire on the constable and fled the area.
Hearing the gunshot, locals rushed to the spot and informed the Town Police. Police admitted Sethi to the district headquarters hospital from where he was shifted to the IGH in Rourkela.
Till reports last came in, police have detained the three brothers of Krishna and begun a manhunt to nab him.
