Cuttack: Just a day before the end of the historic Bali Jatra in Cuttack, a student leader from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) triggered a controversy on Wednesday by singing a song in praise of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the fair ground.
According to sources, the general secretary of the BJD student wing Abinash Mohanty sang ‘He Naveen Babu Ame Tama Fan’ and the video has gone viral over social media.
However, it did not go down well with many including intellectuals. Mohanty was accused of using Bali Jatra ground for the promotion of the political party.
The incident led to a debate with people questioning the permission to use Bali Jatra ground for the promotion of a political party in the very presence of district administrative officers and police officials.
“When a singer sings, he has his liberty of choice. It may be his personal choice. I don’t want to comment on that issue as I don’t know him and I don’t have any information about it. We would be careful so that such thing won’t repeat in future,” Cuttack District Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani told local media.
