Bhubaneswar: A policeman is absconding after he allegedly raped a married woman at Lakhmipur village under the Rambha police limits of Ganjam district.
The accused has been identified as Gopal Krushna Behera, who is the Havildar of OSAP 8th Battalion, Odisha Police, Chhatrapur. Police have registered a case in this regard against the accused policeman.
Reports say Behera went to the married woman’s house and introduced himself as her husband’s friend at Lakhmipur village on Wednesday night. In her husband’s absence, the cop threatened her with a sharp weapon and outraged her modesty before fleeing from the scene.
The villagers gathered after the woman screamed for help. They accompanied her to the police station to lodge a written complaint. A case has been registered and the victim was sent to the MKCG Hospital for medical examination.
According to a source, the accused had married 10 days ago. The villagers sought strict action against the accused cop.
