Puri: A couple was found dead in a house at a village under Kanas area of Odisha’s Puri district on Sunday with family members alleging that the two committed suicide due to debt burden.
The incident took place at Anlajodi Uparsahi village under Kanas block of the district. The couple was found hanging from the ceiling of a room in the house this morning, sources said.
The deceased have been identified as Banambar Behera (58) and his wife Banita Behera (53).
Family members of the deceased and villagers suspect it was a case of suicide saying that the couple had taken a loan from a private finance company. However, they were unable to repay it.
Some employees of the finance company were stated to have visited the couple’s house on Saturday.
On being informed, a team of police personnel visited the site and sent the bodies for post-mortem. An investigation has been launched and further details are awaited.
