Lahore: A district court has ordered authorities to file an FIR against Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, his son and chief minister of Punjab province Hamza Shehbaz, Pakistan Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and senior police officials.
The PM and others have been accused of torturing and injuring workers of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party during last month’s Azadi march, ANI reported citing The Express Tribune.
Advocate Afzal Azeem, the petitioner, accused senior police officials of torturing PTI supporters and using tear gas and batons to stop them from joining the long march.
He stated that police officers committed a “serious offence” as they tortured people who were looking to exercise their democratic rights by way of protests.
The petitioner further said that police acted on the whims of the PM, regional CM and Interior minister.
An additional district and sessions judge had earlier ordered police station SHO to file a criminal case against Interior minister Sanaullah, eight police officials, DIG Operations and 400 other officials for assaulting lawyers and damaging their vehicles when they were heading to participate in the long march.
PTI has urged the United Nations to conduct a probe into human rights violations.
