Baripada: A local court has sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for killing her infant son in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
As per the case, the woman, Parvati Naik, had married a man of Bankidihi village under Bisoi police station in the district. Parbati was the second wife of the man and the couple had a son.
On September 10 last year, Parvati was alone at home as her husband had gone out and his first wife was working in a crop field. Before her husband left home, Parvati had a fight with him over some issues.
Finding herself alone in the house, an agitated Parvati allegedly strangulated her one-and-a-half-month-old son to death and dumped his body in a pond behind their house.
On his return to the house, Parvati’s husband enquired about their son. As she did not give any satisfactory answer, he got suspicious and started searching the house and around it. After some time, he found his son’s body floating in the pond.
Alarmed by the sight of his infant son’s body, he informed the police. Later, a team from Bisoi police station retrieved the bod and sent it for post-mortem. The infant’s son also lodged a complaint against Parvati in the police station.
The police registered a murder case and arrested Parvati. Following investigation, they filed chargesheet in the court.
After hearing the witnesses and examining the evidences, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Rairangpur, V Sujata on Friday convicted Parvati and sentenced her to life sentence.
