Agra: India is on alert in the wake of a sharp surge in COVID-positive cases in China and other countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi cautioned that the pandemic is not over yet and directed officials to strengthen surveillance measures at a high-level meeting on Thursday to review the government’s COVID-19 preparedness.
Taking a cue from the government’s call for appropriate COVID-19 behaviour, the local administration has put in place stringent measure at Taj Mahal, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.
ANI quoted the District Health Information Officer in Agra as confirming that everyone wishing to visit Taj Mahal will have to undergo a COVID test beforehand.
“The Health department has already started the tests to prevent spread of infection. As the alert is on, COVID test has been made mandatory for all visitors,” said Anil Satsangi, DHIO (Agra).
Tens of thousands of domestic and foreign tourists throng the Taj Mahal on a daily basis.
