New Delhi: Delhi is already preparing for the next wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

Having struggled to manage the alarming surge in coronavirus cases amid a severe oxygen crisis since April, the Arvind Kejriwal-headed AAP government is already looking ahead.

“We’re increasing oxygen beds… we must prepare for the third wave. In this (second) wave, Delhi recorded a maximum of 28,000 cases in a day. The scale at which we’re creating infrastructure, we’ll be able to deal even if 30,000 daily cases are reported in the next wave,” Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said.

Delhi entered a fourth week of lockdown on Monday, with tougher curbs like shutdown of metro railway and ban on outdoor weddings and gatherings.

Like several states, Delhi is facing vaccine shortage.

“We’re left with vaccine stock vaccines for 3-4 days. We’ve placed orders with companies, but I think Central government is allocating the vaccines… we got a letter from the Centre about the stock that we would get in a month. We request Centre to give us more vaccines,” said Kejriwal.

Delhi reported 12,651 new coronavirus infections and 319 fatalities in the last 24 hours. It was the lowest number of fresh COVID cases in a day in four weeks.
