New Delhi: A total of 68,020 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in India over the past 24 hours on Sunday. This is the biggest single-day surge since October, according to Union Health Ministry data.
With 291 casualties, the total number of active cases has shot up by 35,498, the date shows.
India’s COVID-19 tally now stands at 1.2 crore with 1,61,843 deaths till now since the outbreak of the pandemic in January 2020.
Maharashtra, which is on the verge of another lockdown with the resurgence of the infection, reported 40,414 cases of the total, along with 108 deaths on Sunday. The state has been placed under a strict night curfew from Saturday midnight.
