COVID-19: Japan To Provide Development Assistance Worth Rs 3,500 Crore To India

New Delhi: Japan has committed India an aid of Rs 3,500 crore under the name of Development Assistance Loan to deal with the COVID-19 crisis.

Additional Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs Dr CS Mohapatra and Japan’s Ambassador to India, Suzuki Satoshi exchanged the notes for a health sector programme private loan in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr Mohapatra and Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in New Delhi, Katsuo Matsumoto signed the Loan Agreement for the programme, subsequent to the notes exchange.

JICA is the government agency of Japan that coordinates Official Development Assistance for the Government of Japan.

Japan government’s ‘grant-in-aid’ aims to provide medical equipment to strengthen India’s public health and medical system. It will strengthen the country’s health care facilities to tackle critical and serious COVID-19 patients.
