Sambalpur: Amid COVID-19 resurgence fear, 25 students of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT ), Burla, have tested positive for the virus in the last two days.
According to varsity sources, these cases have been detected in three hostels of the state-run university. While 24 students had tested positive for the virus on Friday, one was found infected on Saturday. Among them, 16 are undergoing treatment at different hospitals.
Following detection of the infections, the Vice-Chancellor has urged the first-year students not to enter the campus as a precautionary measure.

The varsity had reopened on January 10 this year adhering to COVID-19 guidelines and students with COVID-19 negative certificate were allowed to stay in the hostels, sources added.
In June last year, the varsity was shut after a lecturer’s husband died of COVID-19. She was later found positive for the virus.

The university had also remained closed for seven days from July 15 to 21, 2020, after some employees were found to have been infected.
