Bhubaneswar: Keeping the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases in view, the Odisha Police has issued guidelines for safety of the jail inmates.
In a letter, Director General, Prisons and Director, Correctional Services Santosh Upadhyay has directed all jail superintendents not to allow any COVID-19 accused to stay in the jail.
He told them to admit the jail inmate in the COVID hospital if he/she tests positive for the virus. The jail superintendents should take the step after obtaining remand permission from the court.
The DG also said the prisoners testing positive should be sent to the COVID care centre (CCC) and the prisoners whose condition is critical to the COVID care hospital.
