Bhubaneswar: The number of COVID-19 patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) in Odisha has touched 867. The state now has 49075 active cases.
While 412 patients were admitted to the ICUs on April 20, the number had mounted to 748 by April 23 with the admission of 336 more patients in just three days.
Of the total 2,436 ICU beds, 1,769 are in private hospitals and 667ICU beds in government facilities.
According to a report published in The Times of India, there are no vacant ICU beds in dedicated COVID hospitals like Ashwini Hospital in Cuttack, Tata Hospital at Duburi in Jajpur district, Old District Headquarters Hospital in Jharsuguda, Aditya Ashwini Hospital in Bhubaneswar, Old TB Building Kamthana in Kalahandi district, Jay Prakash Hospital in Rourkela. The occupancy rate at Sadguru Hospital in Cuttack is 98 per cent while 90 per cent of ICU beds have been utilised in the COVID isolation ward at Balangir Medical College and Hospital.
The report further added that 29 of 179 ventilators are in use.
Odisha had seen the highest of 820 patients being admitted to the ICU during the first wave last year.
Sources in the Health Department on Monday said that 35 per cent of ICU beds are occupied in the state and 18 per cent of ventilators are in use. The vacancy in isolation beds is 72 per cent. Oxygen is sufficiently available.
