Bhawanipatna: The Balangir Police on Thursday took Govind Sahu, the main accused in Mamita Meher murder case, to Mahaling Stadium in Odisha’s Kalahandi district to recreate the crime scene.
The prime suspect, who was president of the managing committee of Sunshine English Medium School, was also taken to Chandotara Chhak, where he had reportedly given the schoolteacher a lift.
DIG (Northern Range) Deepak Kumar and Balangir SP Kusalkar Nitin Dagdu were present.
According to sources, Sahu told police that he brought the body to the stadium where a pit was dug from the car parked in the backyard around 8 pm on October 8. He had arranged for petrol and wood to burn the body.
Sahu said that he torched most of the evidence, including Mamita’s mobile phone. He left the place after 15 minutes, he added.
The accused, police claimed, had earlier confessed to having strangled Mamita to death in his car after she threatened to expose his extra-marital affair. It was a pre-planned murder.

Earlier in the day, police had seized a bag from the wife of Sahu’s aide Radheshyam Chandi, alias Radhe, who was arrested the previous day in connection with the case. The bag reportedly had three pairs of women’s garments, a mobile phone and charger and some medicines. Radhe’s wife claimed that she found the bag under a bed. He was the driver of the main accused. However, Sahu drove the car himself on the fateful day (October 8), when Mamita went missing. Police had exhumed the remains of her body from the stadium on October 19.
Sahu was arrested on Tuesday after he managed to slip out of the police barrack at Titlagarh, where he was being detained since October 14, on Sunday night. He is currently in police custody.
