Bhubaneswar: House of a man who has been arrested in a murder case was razed to the ground by the Commissionerate Police at GD slum area in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
Accused Vishal Naik, behind bars in connection with a murder committed in May this year, had encroached upon a piece of government land and constructed a house in an unauthorised manner, police said.
The illegally-constructed house from where the criminal was running a racket has been demolished to send out a message that criminals should refrain from all forms of anti-social activities.
Similar action will be taken against other criminals if they continue to take law into their own hands, said a police official.
It may be noted here that the police had also razed the house of an accused who was arrested for his involvement in looting valuables including gold ornaments, a motorcycle, a TV and other articles worth Rs 12 lakh from the house a government officer in Unit 6 area of the state capital.
