Cuttack: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has identified four open spaces on the sand bed of the Mahanadi and the Kathajodi for sale of firecrackers and recommended the same to Commissionerate Police for giving permission to traders for setting up stalls.
The four identified spaces are Kathajodi riverbed in front of Cuttack Netaji Bus Terminal (CNBT), Devigada, near Judicial Academy and Mahanadi riverbed in front of Mata Mutt.
According to sources, over 150 traders have applied for temporary licence for setting up stalls in the city.
“No firecracker stall will be allowed in residential and congested areas in accordance with the Orissa High Court’s order,” Mayor Subhas Singh said.
Echoing the same, Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra added permission would be given for sale and use of green fireworks only as per the Supreme Court’s directive. No firecrackers, generating earsplitting sound beyond the prescribed limit of 125 decibel, will be allowed, he added.
