Bengaluru: India is the world’s most frequently targeted country as far as cyber attack is concerned in 2022.
According to a study, cyber attacks on Indian government institutions intensified in 2022, making it the most targeted country this year, Times Now reported.
Last year, Chinese government was at the receiving end of maximum cyber attacks.
India, China, the USA and Indonesia have been the most targeted countries in the last two years, and accounted for about 40% of cumulative cyber attack incidents in the government sector.
XVigil, an AI digital risk platform, found that attacks targeting India’s government sector increased by a whopping 95% in the second half of 2022, compared to the same period in 2021.
XVigil has been developed by CloudSEK, a company that predicts cyber threats.
According to the report, cyber attacks are at times launched with political and religious agendas, not just driven by monetary interests.
Major findings of the report:
* Government agencies in India have become popular targets for phishing campaigns
* Cyber campaigns against India orchestrated by multiple ‘hacktivist’ groups of which ‘Dragon Force’, with Malaysian links, is the key
* Data breach and hacktivism were most favoured attack vectors against India in 2022
* Over 95% of attacks against China were initiated by ‘AgainstTheWest’ group
