Jagatsinghpur: District Collector Sangram Keshari Mohapatra on Saturday directed the officials to shift the people from most vulnerable areas to safe places and keep adequate stock of essential items in view of cyclone Amphan.

At a meeting with BDOs, tehsildars and other officials through video-conference, Mohapatra said Balikuda, Ersama. Kujang and Paradip in the district are most likely to be affected by the cyclone which is forecast to hit the coast on May 20.

The officials were directed to shift the people from these places to 542 schools identified for shelter and 42 cyclone shelter homes. They were also told to stock dry food and drinking water at these places.

With Paradip identified as very sensitive, the Collector advised the fishermen not to venture into sea from May 16. While 18 safe shelters have been identified, two ODRAF teams will be deployed in the port town.

The Collector also told the officials to keep enough stock of polythene sheets and arrange water tankers and generator sets. Mohapatra said they cannot leave the headquarters during the cyclone period.
