Cyclone ‘Dana’: Odisha Govt Sends 6 Senior IAS Officers To Supervise Rescue & Relief In Districts

Bhubaneswar: Gearing up to deal with the impending cyclone ‘Dana’, the Odisha Government on Tuesday assigned six senior IAS officers for supervision of rescue and relief operations in six districts, which are likely to be severely affected by the storm.

As per the order issued by Office of Special Relief Commissioner, IAS officers K Sudarshan Chakravarthy, Trilochan Majhi, Balwant Singh, Vineet Bhardwaj, Yamini Sarangi and Samarth Verma have been given the charge for overall supervision of rescue and relief operation in Balasore, Bhadrak, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada districts respectively in view of the impending cyclonic storm.

The officers have been directed to reach the assigned districts by October 23 morning.

Notably, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intensification of the depression over Eastcentral Bay of Bengal into a cyclonic storm by October 23, its likely movement towards Odisha coasts and landfall between Kendrapada and Bhadrak by October 24-25.

Fourteen districts of Odisha are “likely to be affected with wind action as well as heavy rainfall.
These districts are Ganjam. Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Khurda, Nayagarh and Cuttack.

The IMD has issued red warning for 7 districts — Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur — and orange warning for 7 more districts such as Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri and Ganjam — for October 24 till 25.
