Bhubaneswar: As Puri is likely to experience landfall of Cyclone ‘Dana’, the Odisha government has advised the devotees and tourists not to visit the Pilgrim Town on October 24 and 25.
Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari on Monday said Puri comes under likely place of landfall of the cyclone, as per IMD forecast. In view of this, the government is making preparations for safety of the people in the town.
“The state government is taking all possible steps to ensure zero casualty and minimum damage to properties during the cyclone. The tourists are requested to leave Puri town for their own safety before the landfall of the cyclone,” he said.
Moreover, the devotees and tourists should avoid going to Puri on the two days, he said adding that the government would make special arrangements for the safety of the habisyalis already in the town to observe Kartik Brata.
The possible Cyclone ‘Dana’ is likely to make landfall along north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island by October 24-25 as a severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
