Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of India Meteorological Department has issued heavy rainfall alert for four Odisha districts of Ganjam, Khurda, Puri and Jagatsinghpur on May 10 under the impact of the probable cyclone over the South Andaman sea.
According to IMD, the low pressure area that formed over the South Andaman sea on Friday morning is likely to intensify into a depression on May 7 and then into a cyclonic storm by May 8 evening. It is very likely to continue to move northwestwards and reach Westcentral Bay of Bengal off north Andhra-Odisha coasts by May 10, when it is expected to make a landfall.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada and thunderstorm with lightning over the rest districts of Coastal Odisha Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Koraput, Malkangiri.
Yellow Warning from 8.30 am of May 7 to May 8
Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts ofCoastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj.
Yellow Warning from 8.30 am of May 10 to May 11
1) Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at oneor two places over the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Khurda.
2) Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal and North Coastal Odisha.
Wind warning for deep sea area
Gale wind speed reaching 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph is likely to prevail over central parts of Bay of Bengal on May 9 and gale wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph is likely to prevail over Westcentral and adjoining Northwest & East-central Bay of Bengal on May 10, the regional meteorological centre stated in its bulletin.
Meanwhile, under influence of the cyclonic storm, sea condition is likely to become high over central parts of Bay of Bengal on May 9 and over Westcentral and adjoining Northwest and Eastcentral Bay of Bengal on May 10.
The fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea area over the central Bay of Bengal on May 9 and 10 and over Northwest Bay of Bengal on May 10. All those fishermen out at sea advised to return to coast by May 10.
