Bhubaneswar: The Special Relief Commissioner of Odisha on Tuesday asked district collectors to remain alert after India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of a possible formation of cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal.
The IMD also issued a heavy rainfall warning for Odisha under the impact of the cyclonic storm. The SRC has asked the collectors to monitor the situation closely.
The SRC office has instructed administrative officials in the districts falling under ‘Yellow and Orange’ warning category to remain prepared to meet any waterlogging or localised flood-like situation, including in urban areas.
The officials have been asked to keep a watch on possibilities of landslides in hilly areas.
Instructions have also been issued to keep continuous vigil on low-lying areas and undertake de-watering measures wherever required. A control room at district level should function round the clock, the advisory stated.

Day 4 (Valid From 0830 Hrs of 3.12.21 to 0830 Hrs of 4.12.21)
Yellow Warning:
Heavy Rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and Jagatsinghpur.
Day 5 (Valid From 0830 Hrs of 4.12.21 to 0830 Hrs of 5.12.21)
Orange Warning:
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur with extremely heavy rainfall in one or two places in the districts of Ganjam, Puri and Jagatsinghpur.
Day 5 (Valid From 0830 Hrs of 5.12.21 to 0830 Hrs of 6.12.21)
Orange Warning:
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to continue over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj.
Wind Warning: Squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph over southeast and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal, on December 2.
Gale winds speed reaching 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph likely to prevail over central Bay of Bengal from the early morning of December 3 and gradually increase becoming 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal from the morning of December 4 for the subsequent 24 hours.
