Bhubaneswar: The state machinery is on its toes to prevent any loss of life and property in the wake of cyclone Jawad, brewing over the Bay of Bengal, Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) has alerted people in the coastal areas, coming in the risk zone, to follow government’s orders to ensure their safety from natural disaster.
The OSDMA has asked people to prepare emergency kits at home. The government’s video on emergency kits includes dry food, emergency light and medical care.
The government has asked people to pack dry food like flattened and puffed rice, jaggery, chhatua and drinking water. People have also been asked to keep emergency lights, radio, torch light, battery, candle and match sticks ready to tide over the aftermath of cyclone.
People in likely to be affected areas have been asked to wrap important documents like land certificates, education certificates, voter card, Aadhaar card and precious ornaments in polythene covers and tuck those in a safe place.
The possible cyclone would reach Odisha- north Andhra Pradesh coasts in the morning hours on December 4. At present, the system lies as well marked low pressure area and it is likely to intensify into a Depression in the next few hours.
