Cyclone ‘Midhili’: Bangladesh Braces For 2nd Storm In A Month; No Warning For Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In less than a month, Bangladesh is bracing for yet another cyclone after Hamoon crossed near southern Chittagong on October 25.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), cyclonic storm ‘Midhili’, which formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal on Friday, may continue to move north-northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast close to Khepupara with wind speed of 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph during during November 17 night or early hours of November 18.

The system lay centered at 5.30 am at about 190 km east of Paradip (Odisha), 200 km south-southeast of Digha (West Bengal) and 220 km southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh).

Midhili, which is the third cyclone in the Indian Ocean after Tej and Hamoon in a span of a month and half, is unlikely to have any impact on Odisha. Dry weather may prevail across the state on November 17-18, an IMD’s special bulletin said. However, squally weather with wind speed 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is likely to prevail along & off Odisha coast on November 17.

WIND WARNING

>> Gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph is prevailing over Northwest Bay of Bengal and is likely to increase gradually becoming 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph over North Bay of Bengal from forenoon till evening of November 17. It would decrease gradually to become 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph over the North Bay of Bengal on November 18 morning and decrease thereafter to become squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph by noon of November 18 and decrease thereafter.

>> Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over adjoining central Bay of Bengal till November 17 evening and decrease thereafter.

It has also forecast rough to very rough sea condition.

>> Very rough to high sea condition is prevailing over North Bay of Bengal and along & off Bangladesh coast and likely to continue till morning of November 18.

>> Rough sea condition is likely over adjoining central Bay of Bengal till evening of November 17.
