Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday announced that Cyclone Nisarga has started the landfall process south of Alibag in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. The process will continue for 3 hours.
Wind speeds have reached 120-140 kmph in the eye of the cyclone. The wall of the eye is a fast rotating (anti-clockwise) mass of deep convective clouds wrapped around the eye of the storm, said IMD.
The cyclone may hit Mumbai severely with wind speeds exceeding 100 kmph, and is likely to impact Raigad and Ratnagiri districts, said experts.
Section 144 has been declared along the Mahrashtra coast in view of the cyclone. Also, vehicular traffic has been banned on the Mumbai-Worli Sea Link.
